SAHM how do you make income?

Question

I am currently working full-time and have been for years. My 2 year old is currently in daycare and dad and I pay $1,400/month for just her. My son is due in August and I would love to stay home with my kids and save on daycare meanwhile making income. I live in North Carolina if that’s helpful. Call center jobs are not cut for me lol. I did that for 5 years and almost lost my 💩. I do not have a degree but I have 10+ years of HR experience.

Yeah, I work from home with 2 kids and it’s absolutely not sustainable. My daycare has been closed for 2 weeks, will be closed for 2 more weeks (in home, provider is on vacation) and I’m about to go bat shit crazy. I have a 5yo and an 11mo old. I work as a physician admin assistant. So a lot of computer work or casual phone calls. I can make my own hours and overall it’s very lax. I have time during the day to take my oldest to and from school. Keeping both kids with me for a day or 2 is totally doable, can maybe do a week. But long term? Absolutely not. Not only am I busy with my kids (meals, snacks, naps, diaper changes, breastfeeding, discipline, activities,
Etc ) they get bored and are constantly bothering or creating distractions. 
There is a common misconception that staying home and parenting/working is doable. It’s really not. Your job isn’t going to pay you to raise your kids. It’s paying you for your work. And if you can’t prove your work, you don’t keep your job. A lot of work from home positions have been slowly eliminated to hybrid positions or are earned after a decent amount of service (I did 3 years before getting full time WFH). Or they pay minimally because they know turn around will be high, and productivity with an entry level WFH position is going to be low.

It’s very hard to work with kids at home. Most people who stay at home and work still have a form a childcare (nanny, babysitter, few days of daycare). The majority of their income still goes to childcare. 
There are very very few jobs that even allow you to care for your kids while wfh. 
My husband wfh and he absolutely cannot care for the kids during work hours. It’s not even an intense job. 
I have 2 kids (2&3) and staying at home with them is a full time job and then some.

You wont be able to work from home and take care of your children at the same time with a real work from home job. If you want to take care of your children and work at home at the same time, you'll need to do one of those pyramid scheme flooding social media with product from a company jobs.

You cannot work and raise children. It’s virtually impossible. You can find side hustles to help try and bring in income. Do you have a hobby you can potential try and monetize on Etsy or something? 
There’s also things like user research that can give you a bit of spending money. Things like usertesting.com, User Interviews, Respondent and Userlytics have a lot of unmoderated “tests” you can do to help companies test new things out usability of their websites. They have moderated ones as well that you’re actually speaking with someone live, and those pay more.

There are lots of remote/hybrid HR jobs out there. Check out Idealist.com but Im sure Indeed or LinkedIn has some as well. Price around in your area but I think it may be cheaper to hire a mother's helper/nanny than what youre paying for daycare x2 and youll be home with them for lunch breaks and what not. No you wont save the entire daycare cost but it may be less. My job is WFH and has core hours only 4 hrs a day and the rest is flexible, some days I dont need to work the full 8 hrs to be caught up on my work if Im efficient with my time. I also sometimes do things like work late at night to get a project done and then just send them my reports during business hours so I can work less during the day. They dont care as long as I do my work and am responsive if they need me (usually just a quick reply). If youve been doing HR for 10+ years and you find a smallish company or one where you have an associate working under you, you may find you only need a helper for a few hours a day to manage the kids.

I sew, quilt, embroider, and I used to do photography but it ended up turning into a full time job/business and took too much of my time. I ended up closing my photography business when I got pregnant with this baby so I could focus on my family. But sewing & quilting is a big hobby for me, so I still do that.

I don't work from home, but have a part time job where I work while eveyone is still asleep and I get home about when they wake up(5-9am). I still get most of the day with my family (husband works 4pm-1am) and we have weekends together. I don't bring in a ton of money, but between what I do make and what we save on childcare it makes a difference.
