Older generations
Why is it so hard for the older generations to realize things have changed in present day? They get so defensive and upset when we share current research/practices.
I brought my baby home “early” from a birthday dinner tonight (it was actually 30 minutes past the start of his bedtime routine, which in turn throws off bed time by half an hour as well) and my MIL made a comment on our way out “he doesn’t even look tired”, but I really didn’t want to get into the whole “an over tired baby is harder to get to sleep” etc. because I know her or her husband would just say “we let the kids stay up all day so they’d sleep all night” which is so outdated! I’m the one who has to get up with my baby and I’m not about to stay at a dinner just so they can see him & fight with a cranky baby later. (They see him often).
I’m super flexible when it comes to naps, but bedtime is not something I want to risk disrupting because my baby fights it hard (learned the hard way at Easter). I’m just tired of parents always having some come back from the things they did in 1980’s and how we should do them now too.
