Am I wrong to be upset about my baby shower?

Alana

This past weekend I had my baby shower and I regret it. I’m feeling really sad about it. I’m not a person who tries to be the center of attention but I really wanted this to be a special day.

It started off bad because we just moved to a new state and I don’t have friends here. So I decided to throw myself a shower (first mistake) and I wanted to make it co-ed so my husband could invite his friends and family who live here- otherwise there would be nobody there. For some reason he didn’t invite all his friends or any family besides his dad and sister. I kept asking him to invite more people and he kept saying “I don’t want to invite everyone I know”. It was a party at our house and I guess he was nervous about people fitting in our house, even though we have a big house.

Fast forward to the day of the party:

- half of the people who rsvp’d didn’t show

- we bought tons of food for those people who didn’t come now we have tons of leftovers

- my sister who was in town to help didn’t help at all and I did it all (decor, cleaning, setting up food, organizing games, corralling guests) by myself 30 weeks pregnant

- nobody got anything off the registry and some people didn’t bring gifts

- the party was low energy and we could have invited double the people (my husband said wow you were right we should have invited everyone 🤦🏽‍♀️)

So here I am, exhausted, still cleaning my house, out $1000+ that I spent on this party, with a whole registry of things I still need to buy. And nobody played the games, nobody took any pictures with the photo wall I made ( my fingers are bleeding still from the balloon arch I made) I’m just feeling bummed. You only get one baby shower and I wanted it to be special but instead I just feel like I wasted $1000 I should have spent on baby items. We are not rich and I’m not being materialistic it just felt rude for people to come and not bring anything.

I just had to vent thanks for listening. And don’t make my mistakes.
