Therapist Talk

Gabrielle • 35 years old...Mother of 2

My daughter has been seeing a therapist biweekly. She has been lying, sneaking around and a lot of reckless behavior. Since she has proven untrustworthy (breaks my heart), I looked in her phone ONE TIME about a month ago. I found out she was talking about having unprotected sex and has already tried oral. I attempted to have an open and honest conversation with her. She lied to me and gaslighted me to the tenth power. She even said if she has sex, it’s nobody’s business but hers. She’s 14.

We were finally able to discuss it again this evening. She informed me that she let her therapist know about the incident. The therapist proceeded to tell her it is her business and I had no right asking her about it. I was caught off guard. She’s my daughter and it’s my job to keep her safe.

When I asked, “Did you tell her that you lied to me when I asked you?”, she said she didn’t. Am I trippin for thinking the therapist gave bad advice?

* I even called the therapist last week to try and get tips to help with my daughter and she still has not returned my call; however, my daughter has her regular appointment tomorrow.
