Is this weird??

We lost a baby at 22 weeks. We had him named. Everyone knows his name and we still talk about him a lot. Now I’m pregnant again, is it weird to use the name again? I just love the name so much.

Would you be ok with using the name as a middle name? That may be a way to honor your loss and still use a name you love!

If everyone uses it and you talk about the baby using the name, I wouldn’t use it again. It’s like erasing the loss and starting over. How are you going to differentiate between your lost child and your living one? If you hadn’t used the name at all, then it would be different. I couldn’t do it. I had a loss, but never named the child. If I did, there’s no way I would use the name again

Since everyone uses the name, I think it could be confusing. Also I think it could potentially hurt your next child to know they were given the same name as their sibling. They may feel guilty or less important or like they are living in the shadow of the lost baby, etc. Also personally I would want to keep that name belonging to my lost baby. If the name wasnt commonly known and used by everyone to refer to the baby, id say you could use it again if you wish, but since it is used by you and others i think its best to choose a new name for the next baby.

I loss my baby boy Oliver at 21 weeks last year, now pregnant with another boy and I definitely will not put my son's name to this baby. Oliver is my son and I can't imagine calling another son the same name. We talk about him always, he is part of our life and having this baby will not change that. How are you going to differ from one son to another? I second to use it as second name.

I wouldn’t say it’s bad bc that’s your choice. But I will tell you that I personally wouldn’t use it again. I always wanted to name one of my baby’s Yadira in honor of my oldest sister who passed away when she was a baby. I love the name. But everytime I would speak it out into existence that If it was a girl I was going to name her that. I had a miscarriage. So I stopped and God blessed me with my daughter after 2 years of my last miscarriage. I will forever honor my sisters name and I’m glad I didn’t use it bc I wouldn’t want to erase her memory. Or make my mom feel sad for losing her baby.

I lost my daughter 5 days after birth last year. She was her own person and wouldn't use her name again. That's her name. You could find another way to honour your baby. Use their name as a middle name and they will know their name came from their sibling. Or we are using my daughter's birth flower as the name for new baby. We're having another girl so really wanted a nice link to her big sister.

A friend from high school named her first son after her husband but he was born sleeping. Their second son has the same name. I noticed and personally don’t know if I would do the same, but it’s not my place to judge. I’m just glad she has two healthy boys now!
