What happens during an IUI procedure?

Could someone walk me through what to expect during an IUI procedure, from start to finish?

Answer

The unmedicated version is you will let your doctor know when you start your cycle. They will have you come in around day 3 for blood work and an ultrasound. You’ll then go in multiple times to check on your growing follicles, they will measure them each time. You will also get blood work to check for your LH surge. Once you hit your surge they will have you take a trigger shot (usually late at night) and have you come in a day later to have the procedure. They will have the sperm in a catheter syringe and insert the catheter into your uterus through the cervix and release the sperm. Because it’s directly into your uterus you don’t have to worry about “leaking”. After 14 days they will bring you in for a HCG blood test. 
Medicated versions are basically the same except you take shots to help the follicles grow and keep you from ovulating. Once your follicles have reached the growth they want they will have you take the trigger shot and then it’s the same procedure.
