Epidural or not?

Did you all or will you get an epidural? If so do you recommend?

I’ve had two home water births, was very happy with unmedicated births

I did with my first two babies. 
I did NOT (by choice) for my last four. 
Epidurals were not worth it for me when they caused health issues for me. If I ever have another baby I will plan on another unmedicated birth.

It depends on the situation. I don’t think it’s feasible to say definitely yes or no, because labor can vary so much. I got it with my first after 30 hours of labor. Not because the pain was too much, but because my mind and body were exhausted. I hadn’t slept for two days prior to labor because I was itching from my ICP so bad I couldn’t sleep. I had been lingering around 5-6 cm and as soon as I got that epidural and slept for a few hours. My body snapped back and went to 10 within a few hours. I pushed for 15 minutes and she was out. I truly believe that if I had continued on my mission to go without pain relief, I wouldn’t have slept and I would have ended up stalling completely. My best advice is to just wait it out and see what feels right in the moment. Labor isn’t the worst pain ever, but there are other reasons to get the epidural that are very valid. ❤️

I had an epidural with my first. Did not have one with my second. My first birth was fine but I preferred my experience with my second. I’m pregnant with #3 now and will not get one.

Got it for both births. The first went smoothly and was necessary to help me contract smoothly. I was fighting the contractions otherwise and they were irregular, however if I would have paid for a doula I think they would have been able to help me relax without medical intervention.
The second went badly. I got it at 7cm, and they doc said it must have missed where it needed to go because it did not work at all. I ended up getting it again at 10 cm, right before pushing. I should have just gone natural. I still have a sore back and I’m 7.5 months pp.
Get a doula, not an epidural. That is MY takeaway.

I begged for one but they didn’t think I needed one yet finally got at 10cm and it failed then got it again right after & then started pushing 10/10 recommend

Did not get one for labor/labored until 10cm without, but ended up with one for an emergency
C/S 
Would chose not to get one again if having a vbac
