What’s the deal with sneak peek tests??

I see a lot of posts around here about the sneak peek gender tests and I just don’t get the hype. Like, why pay extra to find something out that you can find out later on for free… the NIPT gives pretty accurate results even earlier than the anatomy scan.

And then it seems people are having all kinds of anxiety about whether the results are accurate or not… I just want a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. I’m happy to wait and see.

So polling to see if it’s just that I’m seeing a lot of posts, or if the sex determination is really that important to people.

People are happy to have a healthy baby but that doesn’t mean they can’t find out gender early. It’s something else to be excited about especially at the beginning when it can be so stressful

I’m going to pay for the NIPT test if my insurance doesn’t cover it, but I wouldn’t bother paying for the Sneak Peek.

Some of us aren’t eligible for the nipt test if you had 2-3+ children who didn’t have Down syndrome our insurance wont pay for it and it’s too expensive to pay out of pocket

I did a sneak peek this pregnancy after losing my last baby at 23 weeks. I knew we could potentially get bad news at the 20 week scan so I thought it would be nice to find out the gender before the scan just incase we got bad news

I have history of MC and was very anxious about my baby. Especially going on a trip out of state and away from my OB for 4 weeks. I paid for a private ultrasound just to see my baby and paid for a gender reveal ultrasound at 14 weeks so I could share a special moment with my mom and family before I went back home for the rest of my pregnancy. Very much worth my money. Very reassuring and special memories were made.

We aren't even offered a nipt here or can choose it and don't have sneak peak tests either. 
But we did consider going for an early scan to find out the gender. First time because i was so curious - I had no wish for any gender. Second time because i wanted to know, if i could use the clothes i saved from my first. I'm a planner. So its nice to know if i need a not pink wardrobe 😅
I just wanted to know. Talk about names with my husband and buy things and so on.
All I ever wanted is a healthy baby, but that doesn't mean I dont wanna know the gender as well.

I wanted to know as soon as possible because I wanted to know what to buy. Plus anatomy scans can be wrong so I did both sneak peek and NIPT (did that for the chromosomal abnormality screening). I have a friend who was told she was having a girl via anatomy scan. She gave birth to a boy! No thank you 😅

I didn't have health insurance until my 3rd trimester so I was ordering my own bloodwork and ultrasounds through a pregnancy center and a lab test facility(the local hospital quoted $1,700-$1,900). It was just cheaper to do sneak peek than the lab I went through. I also didn't want to wait until the anatomy scan because we wanted to do a gender reveal on Father's day as a surprise for my FIL that year.

The NIPT is only free if your insurance covers it, not everyone’s does. I paid 300$ for mine with my second baby & got the sneak peek w my third. I did the clinical version which is just as accurate as the NIPT is for determining sex. & it just has to do w excitement. With my first baby I had to wait 21 weeks to know — that was 7+ years ago and the NIPT wasn’t available for just anyone at that time. With my second I waited until 12 weeks (NIPT) & it was more expensive than when I got the sneak peek done which was about 175$. I had 2 boys & just realllyyyy wanted to know what I’d be having with the third. Some of us are impatient & excited.. it has nothing to do w the sex being important or not (at least in my case) I just wanted to know & it’s coool you have the chance to know that early on.
