Opinions on toddler reins? ❤️☠️?

Question

What’s everyone’s opinion on toddler reins. Love them, hate them? Good idea? Completely unnecessary?

If you used them which style and why? I’m trying to decide what do. My son is so speedy and I’ve just had a c-section so I’m not sure I can manage sprinting after him for a while but would like to go out with him still. Are they safe? I’m worried if it could do any damage developmentally by restricting him? Or even physically, I’ve read about dislocations?

We have this one. We bought it when our daughter was 2 and we were going hiking in the mountains. I didn’t trust her to just listen to us and I knew she would not hold our hand the whole time. This was awesome! She loved wearing it because she had straps just like her brother (he wore a hiking backpack). It made hiking far less stressful. We wore it around town on regular walks a lot to get her used to it too. She’s 3 now and we still use it when hiking. She’s fast and fearless so this helps put us at east.

My son is 7 and we still use backpack leashes. It’s for his safety. The public is dangerous and his safety is important. They will not cause any developmental damage.

I use one for my 3 year old. I prefer him not to have the chance to run off and get hurt. He doesn't mind it at all.

They aren’t going to damage your child developmentally. They are a safety device. Some people find them helpful, others don’t feel the need to use them. If they are some thing that you think will help your child, be more safe, and allow you to go out and do things, then go for it. There’s nothing wrong with them. They’re just another option for parents. ￼
