Parents to autistic children
My four-year-old has been newly diagnosed with autism and ADHD and today we signed him up for preschool. Everything was going great until we got to discussing his behavioral struggles and his diagnosis. I may be overthinking it because I’m feeling extra over protective of him and judgment towards him, but I can’t help but feel anxious that they are going to think negatively of him or be irritated about having him in their classroom. I’m overall really worried about how he will do with school in general. He has a speech delay, hearing sensitivity, he has many outbursts at home over the slightest things, very picky eater because he doesn’t tolerate a lot of textures. He really is the sweetest boy, he just needs help communicating and understanding his emotions. I want people to love him and not judge him for being autistic and “difficult.” Has anyone else felt that way? How did it go? what helped?
