Does breastmilk change with baby even if you’re pumping

Question

I know they say that as baby grows your breastmilk changes to adapt to what they need. Does this apply to just breast-feeding? Or will it also change if you’re exclusively pumping? First time mom so I’m not sure about a lot of things. ￼ I am exclusively pumping, and want to be sure that I’m still giving baby what he needs. ￼

In terms of macronutrients, yes it will change as baby grows. Your body “knows” how long it has been since the placenta detached and therefore makes milk appropriate to the age of your child.
In terms of producing different antibodies to fight off specific illness though, no, because there’s no saliva from baby on your breast.

I think this is a good question for your child’s pediatrician or a lactation consultant. I once read that kissing baby’s face (not necessarily mouth) is a mother’s natural impulsive response for testing pathogens on baby’s skin and helps you to produce the proper antibodies etc your baby needs. I’m not sure it’s true, but it is info I got somewhere.
