Boiling water for formula?

Question

I read that if baby is under 3 months that water should be boiled before using with formula. But I am apart of a Facebook page of women saying it doesn’t need to be done. Especially if preparing ahead of time bc it going from hot to cold in the fridge could harbor bacteria? I’m a FTM so I don’t know what to do! I’m slowly transitioning into formula and baby is 2 months old. Thanks!

For most babies it’s not required. If you can drink the water, you can use it to make bottles.
For preemies, boiled water would be best until their digestive system matures a bit. 
I only boiled for about 2m of my son being home. But he was a 27 weeker. We switched to the fridge filtered water after that. And use the pitcher method. And serve cold. 
His feeding therapist even said that most babies do not need boiled water for formula.

When we switched, we got a water test from Home Depot/Lowe’s. We have a shared well with our neighbor and they had recently had their pump replaced so it opened up the potential for contamination. The water test did pick up a bit of bacteria so we used bottled water until we had a uv light filter installed. Then we just used water straight from the tap.

I never did and I never received instruction to from any medical providers. We just used filtered water. But I’m in the US. I’ve heard it’s still standard to advise boiling water for formula in the UK.

I used purified water for mixing my son’s formula after I stopped pumping. We were on city water, at the time and the dr recommended it because of fluoride/chlorine levels in city tap water. If you are on well water and it’s safe to drink, you should be good.

Boiling the water isn’t necessary. I never did that when my son was a baby, nor do I personally know anyone who did/does that.
