How can I get my bf to break up with me?

I feel like if I were to try to end things first it would get ugly. He has never hit me but he has hit his ex (he told me it was just once) and he has made verbal threats. Idk if I believe he’d actually do anything but it does kinda scare me. I want out of the relationship but I feel like my only safe option is to get him to do it. It sucks because we live together… I don’t know how to do this. I just want out so bad. But I have kids so preferably he’d be the one to leave but if it comes down to it I’ll leave and he can keep the apartment, I don’t care I just want out of this situation.
