IUD postpartum
I gave birth to my son on 7/27 and my 6 week checkup is 9/7. At my 2 week checkup, my OB/GYN and I discussed possibly getting an IUD inserted since my husband and I are 99% sure we are done having kids. After I had my daughter, I took a mini pill for about a year and then switched to a combination because I didn’t like my period being super irregular. I do not want to worry about taking a pill at the same time everyday (way too hard to do with a newborn, let alone a toddler and a newborn), plus I gained weight and my mental health was not the greatest on the pill. I’m unsure on the best IUD to chose. I am breastfeeding and have read that the hormone IUDs can implant in the uterine wall of breastfeeding women (this was the biggest concern I had and why I did not get one inserted after I had my daughter). I don’t want to worry about pregnancy or taking a pill everyday and I want to be able to enjoy sex with my husband. Is my only option Paragard since I am nursing? What would you recommend? Also we have BlueCross BlueShield, did your insurance cover the insertion or was there some out of pocket costs? Any advice or experience you had with an IUD is welcome!
