How to get a psych diagnosis?

Do you see a psychiatrist or a certain kind of psychologist? My counselor (a Resident in Counseling) is currently confused on what’s going on with me. She listed off things like mood disorders, spectrum or autism disorders and dissociative disorders, etc. She recommended getting tested but didn’t have any recommendations for me. She said just look up local testing😑 who would I see for an official test that would cover all that? (I’m an adult)

1) You need a new counselor. It’s inappropriate for this person to throw out several mental health diagnoses -until one sticks. It’s almost like your counselor is on TikTok too much.  
2) A psychologist or a psychiatrist or others trained in this area.

Like someone else said a psychiatrist can… and maybe consider a new counsellor, they don’t sound very competent/helpful

From my experience I’ve never had a psychiatrist diagnose me with a disorder. Only talk about medications/prescribe them and talk how it’s been helping with my disorders. Sounds like this is a counselor issue. It’s possible to have multiple disorders but usually there’s always one that makes up of all your symptoms. I’d get a second opinion.

You could probably see a Psychiatrist, but may actually benefit more from evaluation by a Neuropsychologist.
