Where would you live with kids and expenses these days

I’m in Hawaii(Maui) but expenses are crazy, I have 2 kids and I’m a sahm. It’s tough out here, I have family here Born and raised but now a days…. Living is hard out here

I’m from Maui. It’s unfortunate that natives and locals are getting pushed out and forced to make the decision to leave. It’s sad that majority of people living in Hawai’i aren’t even natives or locals. If you have to move, I suggest Vegas only because it’s “home away from home.” With the huge Hawaiian population, it makes it a little easier living there. It’s also not too expensive compared to California.

I’m in Nor Cal and we are leaving the whole US. America done lost they mind. Food is toxic, medical care is expensive (we pay $2200/month) everything is expensive! School tuition for great private schools in our area are 30k/year from k-8th then 56k for 8-12th! It’s not culturally diverse either. I can’t wait to leave next year. We are headed to Portugal 🇵🇹 for half the year and Peru for the other half of the year. With both properties we are buying we’d be saving tons of money! Finally will be able to live our bliss without going broke just to exist! Also these counties are super safe, they put kids first and the citizens. They care about the wellbeing of their citizens which is reflected in their health care system, and school systems. I want my kids to grow up in a safe, culturally diverse environment with great community. Have you considered leaving the US?

As stupid hot as it is I'll likely live in Texas my whole life. If it were up to me I'd move to a safer and more child friendly country, but I know my husband would never be able to leave his family. We live in a small rural town that's child friendly and low cost of living. A family of 4 making $43,000 a year can make it in this town. There are people in this town living off of $23,000 a year with a kid. Not that they have a great house in the best neighborhood, but they're surviving. We make $26,000 more than the average income in our city and we have months we really struggle, but we intentionally live very close to my husband's work and are careful with money.

If those are your options, I’d stay put and close to your family.  All the places you listed are expensive and I imagine you’d be spending a lot to go back and visit. There are cheaper places in the U.S. but they’re not particularly desirable

I’m in Southern California. The specific area I’m in is lovely with great schools, low crime, decent weather. That being said, it’s ASS expensive!!! We were fortunate enough to establish ourselves when we did and buy a house a couple years back before real estate exploded. I’m also a SAHM. I don’t know that it would be worth leaving Hawaii to come here. Rent is crazy. The median home price in this area is probably 700k and that’s a cheap area in SoCal.

I’m a Southern California native with no plans to ever leave, but from the choices you laid out, I’d go with Vegas. It would be the least expensive of those options.

We don’t have kids yet, but we’re currently in Southern California and have no plans to move out of state. In fact, we’re moving into the apartment we plan to raise our kids in in a few months.
