Adjusting Schedules
I’m having a really hard time with meshing my two kids’ schedules at the moment. I have a 11mo and a 2.5yo. This is what we do currently
6:30 Wake and nurse the baby
7:00 Wake the toddler. We all get dressed, have breakfast, etc and then I take her to preschool
9:00-10:30 Baby naps
12:20 Preschool pickup. We eat lunch as soon as she gets home (which takes FOREVER) and I try to have her in bed for her nap by 1:15, but she often doesn’t actually fall asleep until 2
2:00 Baby naps
3:00 Wake toddler and give her a snack
3:30 Baby wakes
5:30 Dinner
Around 6:30 I start the baby’s bedtime routine and she’s usually down by 7. At 7:30 we start the toddler’s routine and she’s in bed by 8 but she usually stalls and cries for us to come back and by the time she’s actually asleep it’s closer to 9. Then I usually spend about an hour doing chores before I go to bed.
I’m struggling with having no time to myself. My toddler used to go to bed at 7:30 and it was so much easier. She’s not ready to drop her nap, the couple of times that she has refused her nap have been an absolute nightmare. But if I end her nap earlier (say 2:30) then I will only have a half hour of overlap with their afternoon naps and that’s just such a short break for me. (Not that it’s really a break, it’s just a time when I can get more done because I’m by myself. I usually spend their overlap cleaning up lunch, emptying the dishwasher, tidying up the living room, switching out laundry loads, and preparing an activity for the afternoon. Sometimes I might have the TV on a show that I like while I sit and fold laundry.)
I just feel like I’m going nonstop from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed, and I’m in such a fog that I don’t know what to change. Does anyone have any suggestions?
