Thoughts on the name Salem for a girl? I LOVE it, but I am worried about the association with The Salem Witch Trials!

For me, it definitely just makes me think of paranoia and persecution and murders. So for me, I’d avoid it because there’s so much sadness tied up there. 
But I know there are also a lot of people who feel very strongly that it’s a good name, and they think of something else. And I think some people see the history surrounding Salem as more of a spooky vibe than a tragedy?
If you’re one of those people who definitely don’t think of the sad history, and you don’t mind that other people do have negative associations, then it could still be the right choice for you.

I named my son Salem. I have not once had anyone associate it with the witch trials. Everyone so far tells me how much they love it because it’s unique. There’s also a little girl at his school named Salem.

My friend named her son Salem, I think it’s cute, definitely spooky and if people do that, oh well. As long as you like and it fits your baby girl then it’s a perfect name for her.

Salem has always been my top girls name. 
I was going to name one of my twins that if they were a girl but im having two boys. 
With that being said, a name can be associated to anything. When I first told my mom, she thought of Salem cigarettes, which apparently were cigarettes she used to spoke as a college student. 
I thought it was interesting because I never heard of them before lol.
There’s also a Salem Oregon, and Salem means peace in Arabic/hebrew. 
I don’t like to look at the negative of things but that’s just me. 
Salem is also the name of the cat from Sabrina the teenage witch. Never watched that show but I heard the cat was funny.

I think its one of they names you have to be set on and not let others opinions get in the way if that makes sense. Personally i love ever and wynter for a girl and leif and grey for a boy but 12 weeks in and im already getting questioning looks. I think if you can deal with the people that dont like it and u still love the name with no doubts then definitely go for it. From a witchy mum I love it and the witch association to me is a good thing as it speaks to all the women (and some men) who went through so much. Its also just a generally pretty name but.i do think it is one you personally need to have no.doubts on xxx
