Should I just end the friendship now?

There’s a coworker I feel a connection to. We get along well and I feel like he understands me differently than most people. However, he recently got petitioned into the hospital for drug use. Today we were talking and he admitted to me that he’s been petitioned about 7 times in the last 6 years and that he even was the guilty party of a hit and run once. Also that he avoided being petitioned a few other times. He told me in the past that he chose drugs over a girlfriend but he said it was bc he realized he was gay. He told me the longest he’s been sober is 7 months. When I asked him if he feels confident in staying sober now, there was a long hesitation and giggles before he said yes. He’s also adamant on getting back together with the guy who supplied him during his relapse.

I really love him (as a friend obviously) but I don’t want to get caught up in this. He doesn’t seem like he’ll stay sober and I’m already sad for him because he’s such a good friend to me.
