He dumped me unexpectedly

My boyfriend out of nowhere basically dumped me because he’s not over his ex of 2+ years ago who he dated for close to 2 years long distance. Everything was great the day before when we hung out. He’s told me that his ex moved on and with a guy, (idk when and for how long nor do I really care)but I didn’t see any of this coming. Like I’m just confused AF as to why he pursued me, said he likes me a ton, sees us being long term by taking it 1 day at a time, excited to see me, called me beautiful, etc. All for him to tell me now he’s not sure….that he wanted to be together. like bruh we all have past relationships, ones that hurt deep, but it’s part of life. I told him if she moved on, why haven’t you?? You’re allowing her to live rent free in your mind and get in the way of you moving forward with stuff. I’m just very disappointed and feel led on and a bit stupid thinking a guy actually liked me but kept his ex in his back pocket this whole time and as an excuse as to why he is clearly choosing not to move on. Like for gods sake, my fiancé died unexpectedly and that took time to heal from but I put myself out there again when I felt ready…like this isn’t competition, but my situation is a lot worse/traumatic than his. He said that he was a point of feeling ready to date again when we met a few months ago (now idk what to believe) and now this happened. He said he was so sad this has to end because he really likes me, but again he chose this, I wasn’t going anywhere and was someone who was willing to be by his side and had so much love to give and he had ZERO problem cutting me off. Even when I asked him if he was sure of this, he bent down and slid my shoes to me…I thought that was degrading/hurtful to do.
