You should really have $5-10k of life insurance on each child just in case. We don't want to even consider their death ESPECIALLY as they're just coming in to the world but funerals are really expensive.

That being said, you should look in to options through your life insurance company and your employer which might be cheaper. My parents had $15k on me until I turned 18 through whatever company they had their life insurance through for an extra few dollars a year. I was able to get $20k policies on all three of my children through work for free.

My parents took out a Whole NY Life policy for me when I was an infant.  The coverage is cumulative, so the death benefit increases the more you pay in. I am 25 years old and my benefit is approx 26k. I took over the premium after reaching adulthood, and pay a minimal fee every 3 months. This insurance protects my husband and family in the event that I die, allowing them to pay funeral costs and other expenses. I will absolutely be taking out a policy for my son when he is born.

If you have life insurance, it's much cheaper to add a rider to your policy for all future kids.
