First wedding! Tips/advice??

Question

Okay I’m going to my first wedding this July. It’s my boyfriend’s friend. I’ve never been to a wedding before! 
What do I need to know?
I heard you apparently aren’t allowed to wear white? Is this true? Can I wear a black dress? What other dress code rules are there?
Is there anything else I should know about that you just don’t wear/ don’t do? Do I bring a gift? Are there rules for that?
Also I am going as my bfs plus one BUT he is in the wedding party so what do I do while he’s at the front? Or whatever it is that groomsmen do. Is there like assigned seating? What do you do as a groomsman’s plus one?????
Am I expected to dance??? What type of dance do people do at weddings? What does the schedule of a wedding look like?

Check the invitation should say the dress code. Day or evening wedding. Not sure where you live how hot it gets in July. An evening full Length gown or cocktail to the knee is usually recommended . It’s gonna be a long day since he’s in the wedding party. Rehearsal and rehearsal dinner usually the day before. Day of Prep. Get ready together. A lot of pictures. Ceremony. They go take pictures usually while they do they have cocktail hour. Then the reception. Appetizers, salad. bride and groom enter and wedding party they dance with whoever they walked in with. Speeches from the maid of honor and best man. Champagne toast. Sometimes other people do them too. First dances with the bride and parents.  meal, dancing if you want to slow and fast songs. Garter and bouquet toss. Cake cut. And dance. Card with cash is the usual gift they go table to table collecting them or have a box to collect them  or a wedding frame are acceptable gifts. I usually do both. Minimum 100 max 500. Depending how much it is per plate. if it’s a nice wedding. Like a country club. 50 minimum for a backyard type of thing. They may do a bridal shower that’s usually stuff from the registry things for the home. Bachelorette and bachelor parties may be ahead of time as well. Hopefully not the day before so everyone is hung over. Rule of thumb is wait for everyone at the table to be served before you eat. Eat from the outside inward for silverware  to know which fork to use. Try not to get wasted. Always bring cash and small bills. For Tips they may have bathroom attendants. Or drinks at the bar. Some are open bar and some are cash bar or have a ticket to limit drinks. You are basically going to be alone until the reception when he’s done with the first dances and entrance. At the church. And at the table until they are seated. Bring shoes with you to change if you wear heels. Most people change to flip flops or bare feet with so much dancing. They may have a choreographed dance or dance classes to go to ahead of time. Just play it by ear. Be of help if you can. Ask the bride if she needs any help with anything I’m sure she will appreciate it. Or the family. Or wedding coordinator. Gives you something to do than just sitting there. Taking coats or handing out programs at the church.just relax and have fun. Bring tissues. A freshen up bag, deodorant  if it’s hot or outdoor. Safety pins. Bobby pins. Bandaids and Neosporen with pain relief in case of blisters. Dress to impress. Have fun.

definitely nothing white, cream, ivory, anything even close to white is a big no, some people say not to wear red either. but usually any other color is fine, I would have your boyfriend ask for the dress code, it just depends on the bride and groom. some people have assigned seats, others don’t. most of these questions just depend on the wedding lol, you’ll just sit in your seat for the ceremony, and no you won’t be expected to dance, it is really fun though! my wedding was super laid back, and so have most weddings I’ve been to, but there are some more fancy weddings
