Do you think the cry it out method is okay ?

I don’t know how I feel about it, my baby is very clingy wants to be held all the time Especially at night time, is it okay to let her cry for 10 mins while I get stuff done.

I’m sorry I voted “No” before I read the text. It’s definitely fine for the 10 minutes for you to do your stuff. I thought you were referring to when people let their babies just cry for hours

10 minutes isnt “cry it out.” Thats “i need to eat something or take a quick shower etc.”

I think the “cry it out method” is different from just letting your baby cry for 10 minutes while you get things done. I think that is unavoidable. I have 3 kids - 2 are under 2 & sometimes it’s impossible for me to run to them as soon as they start crying. Sometimes they do just have to cry for a few minutes before I can comfort them. (& I mean this as if they are crying for no reason - if they get injured or something, I will drop what I’m doing to comfort them). In my perspective the “cry it out method” is when you just leave them be, let them cry until they fall asleep basically. Which seems really bizarre imo. In that sense, I disagree with that method.

We did a modified Ferber method for sleep training where we let my son cry for a maximum of 10 minutes at a time before going in and providing comfort and I felt fine with that personally. I would never just shut the monitor off for the night and let my baby cry however. But yes, sometimes you need a minute or ten to just get something done or to collect yourself after a hard day and it is perfectly fine to leave baby somewhere safe while you do so.

Scientifically educators will tell u no its not ok.to allow ur child to cry for long periods of time. When a baby cries for long periods of time their brain begins to release the stress hormone which has adveres effects on the brain in a young child. Theyre crying bc they have needs. If their basic needs arent always met they can potentially build an insecure attachment. (Attachment is the root of child development and the developing brain)  an insecure attachment will have adverse effects on the develiping brain throughtout childhood and into adulthood.

I never used cry it out, but I think it’s ok depending on the age of the child.

Everyone is different. My heart can’t take more than 5-10 min of crying. That being said, my kids were usually asleep within 5 min after a few times.

I don’t necessarily let my child cry till he stops. I let him cry for about 3-4 minutes, calm him down, speak to him about why he’s crying or having his tantrum and then after give him a cuddle and offer to put a movie on. If he’s tantruming I let him do so until he’s stopped and is only crying as he tends to get aggressive lol but no, I won’t leave my son to cry it out at night if he’s woken up, never ever done so and never will do so

What you are describing I think up to the person and what feels right for them and their kid. I at 1st assumed you meant like just letting them cry solo for however long until they sleep type training. I personally was not one to let my baby cry that long. I would have picked them up amd finished with them or calmed them down then finished or whatever as long as it was an option. I think out of 2 kids I only let it go longer than a few minutes as babies once and it was becquse my oldest had cut herself so was banadaging a bleeding 2.5 yr old and baby had to wait. But as long as they are in a safe space I don't think there is anything wrong with 5-10 mins to finish something. They are safe and as long as you feel.comfortable with it then it sounds fine to me. My mommy whatever you want to call it...instincts or feelings or intuition....told me that it wasn't what I should do but thats me. I think it is perfectly fine though if thats what works for you. There are hundreds of totally good ways to parent so we all should do what works for us and our situations/wants.

I am not ok with it personally. My son is almost 8 and I still rock him to sleep at night.
