Weird comments from my mom

Lately my mom has been making weird comments. Like they’re just so random and most are unnecessary.

So most recently my dad was telling me about a woman we know that had a significant stroke. She’s fairly young, maybe 40’s and a very talented musician among other things. Anyways she’s lost the use of one of her arms which is totally tragic, and I just asked how on earth does that happen to one so young?? And my dad said well they determined it was because of a hole in her heart. And I was like oh my goodness, that’s crazy! I said I know it’s really common for people to have holes they don’t know about or aren’t affecting them. (Because my son had one at birth) anyways my mom pipes up and says yeah like you.

I have never had a hole in my heart. Ever. I had a murmur at birth which was caused by a valve not closing - a condition most children grow out of and was indeed not a hole in my heart. Anyways now my mom is telling anyone who will listen about this imaginary hole in my heart. So people are asking me about this hole in my heart. If I confront her about it she gets all offended and is like well you were too young to remember. Or she says she’s told me before, and I know for a fact she’s never told me anything beyond the murmur before. Which was resolved by the time I was 2.

But why would she suddenly tell me this when 4 years ago I was going back and forth to cardiologist appointments with my son because of the hole in his heart? IMO that would have been comforting information to know that I also had a hole and am totally fine, when they were telling me he would never have a normal childhood.

Anyways, it’s not helpful information, it’s not even necessarily true and yet she’s obsessing over how I “have a hole” in my heart now. And if I say anything to her she makes it look like I’m stupid or never listen to her and I don’t know what to do because stuff like this is getting worse and worse. She doesn’t do it with any of my brothers, just me.
