Would you give this guy a chance or run?

I've been seeing this guy for almost a month. We met on tinder. I got a message from someone who told me to be careful because this guy is a psychopath and sent me an article and his mug shot. Over a year ago he was charged with assault and grievous bodily harm. The gist of it is he was arrested for beating the shit out of a gay guy in a restaurant and the reasoning was so stupid. It was over them getting seated first. By the sounds of the article he used homophobic slurs. I asked him about it and he said the article made him sound homophobic and it had nothing to do with him being gay and he's not against gay people. He basically said "Yeah I beat tf out of someone for no good reason and hospitalized them but it wasn't because he was gay." I asked my dad and my dad said that I'm an adult and can do what I want but there's a specific type of people who beat up somebody like that over nothing and he would be very concerned if I continued the relationship. Should I give him a chance or end it
