I'm curious how other families are doing with savings. How much do you have in a savings account?

We have assets like vehicles are paid in full

Our home we paid over 20% for when purchased

We have around 5,000 in other investments

In actual savings we only have $500 due to some huge emergencies that drained our savings (previous savings was 40k). We are dependent on one income and have three kids. We are trying to live well below our means and put 500 in savings every month. Our goal is to have 6,000 in savings by the end of the year.

How are other families doing with saving? Feel like it's impossible with rising costs and kids to put money away each month.
