Does this sound like we’re more than just friends?

Back in October, met a man and we instantly clicked. We both acknowledged that, lots in common, great chemistry, intimacy, and it just felt easy and comfortable between us

But after he lost his job, he was reevaluating if he wanted to stay in the uk (his family in New Zealand). He pulled away and said he didn’t feel romantic and didn’t think we were the best fit. Confusing given that the connection we shared was fantastic

We didn’t speak for 2 months, but a couple weeks ago I had the urge to reach out and see how he was doing. I asked him how he’s doing with his job search to which he replied he had just accepted a job like minutes before I asked him, weird! But he also told me he sees himself going back to New Zealand in a few years

He asked to meet for a drink to catch up, and once again, we just got along wonderfully. There were times we were just sat smiling at each other. He at one point said ‘ah girl, it’s so good to see you!’ Then we ended up at a gig together spontaneously. There was no romantic aspect, but there was a lot of subtle touching between us. His hand sometimes round my waist, a touch of a hand when we are talking. I don’t notice that with any of my other friends.

Then he dropped me off home, he gave me a hug but no kiss, but asked me if I’d like to go do an outdoors activity with him next weekend

When I arrived back in my house, found out he had slipped a bar of my favourite chocolate into my coat pocket

I know I’m probably getting my hopes up and we are probably just friends. I’m confused why he said he didn’t feel romantic. I guess I don’t understand what romantic attraction is. Could his job situation etc have caused him to pull away? Or would he have said ‘I don’t feel romantically toward you’ if that was the case??

I think he would have probably kissed me if he found me attractive? But I sure felt pretty hot that night haha, I liked my hair, makeup and outfit
