Found out I have HSV1

Can someone have HSV1 and not know they had it because they didn’t have any outbreaks? I found out I have HSV1 but I don’t remember me ever having a cold sore or blister and I don’t know how I got it. When I spoke to my doctor about it he said majority of the population have it and I shouldn’t worry about it. He also said there’s medication I can take to basically take the virus out of me. Idk how true this is because when I look on Google it said the virus will stay in your body forever.
