Saying "I love you" first ?!

We've been dating for 15 months now and he hasn't said I love you yet. It doesn't bother me too much but I feel like I need to get it off my chest. Some nights I stay up crying because it overwhelms me how strong my feelings are for him but I feel like I can't tell him. He's an alpha male and always wants to control everything and he's always telling me that I should follow his lead that's why I've been holding back from saying it but it's torture. He's in his late 30's by the way so it's not like we are little high school kids. I'm not sure what I should do. Also I don't wanna say it to make him say it back in return. I just feel like I have to get it off my chest but every time I have the chance to tell him I get so scared that those words would literally not come out and I don't wanna do it over text. Suggestions?

To me 15mos is a very long time to be in a relationship and not be saying I love you to each other.

You've been together a long time. If you can't talk to him and ask him why he hasn't said it, or say it to him without worry, then you shouldn't be with him. Communication problems are the number one problem in relationships.

I've been dating my bf for about 14 months as well, and we have yet to say those words. Sometimes I do have this urge to say it, but I've never been "in love" with anyone so I don't know how I'm suppose to feel. Then again, my family's Asian where feelings are not spoken. My friend and her bf didn't say those words till almost 2 years later. If you're worried about I definitely think you should talk about your feelings. Good luck.

Tell him how you feel. Maybe explain that he doesn't need to say it back but you feel that way about him. He might be waiting for you to say it first.....never know...

That's way too long! I wouldn't even stay with a boyfriend for that long that didn't express his love for me and vice versa. Sounds to me like he's trying to get the upper hand or play games. I wouldn't waste my time in this type of a relationship. Plus I feel like you know in a few months (6 maybe?) the depth of your feelings. Alpha male just sounds like a euphemism for a controlling dude.

My friend and her boyfriend never say I love you. I guess he told her it's because his parents never said it to him and their family doesn't hit and stuff. I see that as kinda strange, but maybe he's just not someone that sees saying it as necessary? But definitely talk to him about it!
