My daughter never used to cry when she fell over or bonked her head on things but since my MIL makes a huge thing of it and babies her, now she's such a cry baby! Please tell me she'll grow out of it?!
I don't have any other option other than to let my MIL watch my 18 month old daughter right now. My daycare provider is recovering from surgery. She should be fine in three weeks.
My MIL is very dramatic whenever my daughter has a bump or fall. Like, full on cries "Oh no! My POOOR BAAAAABY! Are you hurt? Do you have a boo boo?! Let Granny see. Oh no! OH NOOOOOOO! Boo boo. Boo boo! My poor, poor baby girl!!!!!" Then instantly picks her up, covers her in kisses and fusses over her.
I tend to kind of go, "You ok?" And my kid giggles so I say "Uh oh! All better!" and my toddler carries on.
Now my daughter drops a stuffed toy on her foot, drops to the group holding her foot absolutely screeching and bawling "Booo boooo!" This is something she has never said or done before.
My MIL refuses to do things differently and says "This is how Grandma does it". Like I said, we have no choice for three more weeks.
How long until my daughter grows out of this? She has multiple meltdowns a day where she has "boo boos" (usually she drops something and pretends it hit her foot) and when she has an actual bonk or fall, she's near inconsolable now for a few minutes.
Amanda: thank you! That's so reassuring to hear. Yes, she definitely puts on a show! And my mother-in-law loves it 🫠
