When your child says something disturbing
Our 5 year old suddenly said “I didn’t want to be born! It’s so boring” hubby and I looked at each other and hubby asked her why she thinks that and where this is coming from. The. She says, because “Tom” says it. Tom is her 4 year old cousin. And we talked with her how she’s loved and healthy and just because being bored doesn’t make the world seem bad. She just needs to find something to do.
Hubby says he needs to talk to his sister about it, because not only are these disturbing, depressive thoughts but how a child comes to those type of ideas in the first place.
I said it’s not going to do anything except her probably saying they shouldn’t hang out together. My nephew doesn’t get disciplined at all, he’s awful behavior gets ignored most of the time. He’s not very likable child but that’s because the fault is at his parents. We’ve noticed every time they hung out together, she talks like him. Is it even a good idea to approach the parent about this? Any other options to deal with the situation? We are definitely going to avoid hang outs without us present at this point
