Marriage and joined or separate accounts?

Hey married ladies!

Do you and your husband have joined or separate accounts or BOTH? Newly married over here and already arguing about finances.  I have my own separate checking and savings that I have saved my whole life. Plus we have a joined account with savings we saved together. He has his own checking/savings as well but he's spent all of it. He's not great with money. Which is mainly why I'd like to maintain my own separate savings as well as our joined savings. He thinks now we should just combine everything.  I don't agree... What are your thoughts and opinions? How do y'all do it?

I think everyone should have their own money! Shared money is great too. But everyone should have a few dollars for themselves, for a rainy day!

My husband and I have separate accounts it's just easier for us that way... he spends money horribly :/ we have a set amount he gets for his "play money" that stays in his account then the rest goes into my account for bills, etc. It works for us but everyone is different and has their own way, you just have to find what works for you guys.

Keep your money separate. I hate when people say you become one when married. Like you said you've been saving that all your life. It's yours not yalls

We have separate ones and we have 1 together. The together one is for house stuff, rent, food, utilities, and savings.

My hubby and I joined accounts before we got married. I had more savings than him, but technically, unless you have a prenup, it's all shared money anyway. We just decided when we joined accounts that since I'm better with money I'm the "money manager." I don't tell him he can or can't buy things, I just handle all the bills and keep track of the finances. Any big purchases that he or I make we always discuss with one another. Been working great for us for the last 3+ years!

My husband and I have been married for 6 years and still don't have joint accounts...... We own a company so he runs his personal and the business account (I'm on the business account too) and I have my own...... People may think it's silly but it word for us.

When we got engaged I added my husband to all my accounts. Everything but a Christmas club savings account is in both our names. But, I'm in charge of the finances. I do the bills and everything and then let him know how much he has to spend for the pay period on incidentals. Maybe work with him on setting and sticking to a budget before you add him to anything of yours, and once he shows he can stick to it and manage his money better, then add him.

We have shared finances but not accounts.   I personally wouldn't join accounts with anyone who had no money in theirs (unless there was a good reason). Keep in mind, this is a joint decision you two have to make--don't let him or anyone else bully you into joint accounts because you're married.
