Where to begin testing?

I’m over a year ttc now and started testing for fertility but my doctor didn’t even offer to do an ultrasound or pelvic exam and said I didn’t need to come back because my blood results were normal (I told her ovulation is clearly not the problem) and I don’t feel like she cared to investigate for me. She didn’t even ask for my family medical history. She was an NP. Should I call a fertility center or start simple and go to an OB? Are fertility centers mostly for those who know they have issues and need more help than a simple cyst or endometriosis? Help pls :/

If you go to an OB and they offer some testing, you could start there. Sometimes OBs can recommend fertility meds, find underlying issues, etc. If they can’t, they’ll likely refer you to a specialist or you could ask to be referred if you’re rather start there with it being over a year of ttc. It would also depend on your insurance, some insurances do not cover or only partially cover fertility services at a specialist.

I started directly with an OBGYN & it was 100% the right choice. They started with the basics & then sent me to a reproductive endocrinologist. They tested eeeeeverything & sent my husband to the urologist to do a semen analysis immediately. That ended up being a godsend because our infertility was actually on his side. Unfortunately primary offices can be very “churn and burn”. The best advice I can give you is to advocate for yourself. Fight for yourself. Hard. Tell them what you want to check, what tests you feel are important. Ask ALL your questions. Nobody is going to want this as much as you, so you have to stand up for yourself in this process. You’ve got this! 💜
