Post partum migraines/hormones
***Sorry it’s long and I appreciate you reading and any advice!
Has anyone had issues hormonally after babies/postpartum? Or after having a tubal done?
A little background info: I had twins 10/30/23 (and had my tubes removed during my C-section) so they are 9.5 months now. I also have a daughter who was born in October 2019. I had minor menstrual migraines time to time as a teen til my cycle normalized and then a few again prior to my oldest’s pregnancy but since I had her until I got my cycle back after my twins I didn’t have any and I haven’t used birth control since I was a teen due to reactions with my bipolar ll and anxiety disorders.
So anyway, I exclusively nursed and pumped until the twins were 6 months old then did half BM half formula until 7 months then all formula after that. My period came back short light and easy for 3 cycles when they were 5 months. Then I completely skipped a cycle, had another pretty easy cycle and now I’ve had a migraine so horrible I’ve been so sick for 11 days and I’m on day 3 of my cycle/bleeding and it’s heavier but the only pain I’m having is the headache. I went to the ER twice for the migraine and nothing seems to touch it and I know it’s hormonal/menstrual related since I’m also on my period and it started like a week prior. CT brain scan was perfect and normal. Labs normal. ER suggested I get referrals from my primary to either see a neurologist (but if my brain is fine I don’t think they can help) or another specialist for my hormones. I’m thinking OB or endocrinologist at this point…
So my question: anyone have migraines or hormone imbalances and seen anyone for it? What helped? Any birth control you recommend? Or suggest I stay away from?! I’d love something that keeps me from having my period all together since I’m done having babies! But I mainly just want my hormones even again and no migraines for weeks at a time especially caring for 3 kids under 5 years old basically on my own. I also was told before the twins (clomid babies) that I was in peri menopause so that may be another reason for the hormone issues…
Any experiences or advice welcome! I’ve been sick and crying and feeling so down because of this and I’m hoping I feel better soon and can get to the bottom of this! I see my primary (we have Kaiser so she has to refer me out to anyone else) on Monday morning so anything you think I should ask or tell her is appreciated!
Thanks in advance and thank you especially if you got this far for reading!
