Limiting toys for baby boy?

My son’s father only wants our son (4 months) to play with blocks and similar toys as he gets older. Specifically no action figures…I found that weird of him to say that. I find nothing wrong with action figures personally and to me it promotes imagination. He’s heavy into our son’s future education already and I just want him to have a fun childhood. If it matters, he’s Indian and I’m African American (maybe it’s just a culture clash?) What do you think?

Some toys are more age appropriate than others. At your son’s age, yes, blocks are more appropriate than action figures. But for, say, a four year old? Blocks and action figures can both be fun and promote imagination. I agree with Mrs., if his reasoning is that action figures are the same as dolls, then tell him to fuck off with that BS. But studies do show that limiting toy quantity is actually good for kid’s development. We purge my son’s toys every few months (currently 2.5 YO), and he’s always happier when he can pick through his favorites and not be overwhelmed with the volume of toys he has to sort through in his toy chest.

For a baby or toddler, yes, blocks are generally a better toy. But I wouldnt't see an issue with an older child playing with an action figure.
