I work in a funeral home. I spent $20,000 for an associates degree and graduated in June. I haven’t taken my NBE’s (well no I have taken both sections and have failed both sections which are $285 each) I work for a family owned business. I’ve been there since march. Today they cut my hours to pretty much part time and gave me the same schedule a newer hire made himself b/c he has openly said how much he doesn’t want to work everyday and so he works every other day. Im the only person there whose hours got cut. My schedule went from 80 guaranteed hrs to maybe 48-56 in 2 weeks and I make 15 an hr. Apparently the reason for cutting my hours was there’s been too many cremations recently & their bills are getting hard. I’ve also been talked about and there’s a lot of drama and shit talking from another funeral director there who makes salary about how me and the new guy doesn’t want to work. I’ve sat there and have worked 12 days straight for them. This other newer guy is in school currently for mortuary school. They call him for after hour removals but I’ve been called once so he gets more of a bonus than I do. They don’t call me b/c I’m further out. & it takes me 40 minutes to get to work. Idk if I need to go to another funeral home all together and seek a full time somewhere else, ride it out until service picks up but it’s not garunteed that I will get my hours back considering that my boss today told me that I could go get another part time job if I needed to and he would work around it, or if I need to go look for another part time job else where. I also don’t know if another funeral home would even be okay if I worked at 2 funeral homes. Idk what to do & my fiancé just quit his job 3 weeks ago and is also struggling to find a job cause we live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. What would y’all do?
