What is something that someone said to you when you were a kid / teen that has stayed with you ? 
For example, I remember in middle school, a few people made fun of me for being pale, so now as an adult I always try to tan in the sun or use self tanner, especially in the summer.

I gave up art for good when I was a senior in hs 17 yrs old, because I had told my mom i wanted to go to art school & major in Fine Arts minor in Graphic Design, & she told me id never make any money doing art & i needed to find a career to make a living off of. I was actually very good @ drawing but i gave it up that day & never applied to any colleges. Ended up an addict instead. Dont recommend. LOL

Theres so many lol but ill never forget being in 6th grade & having a guy who bullied me say 2 my face that i didn't actually have a bf & that nobody would want 2 be with a "midget"... i also got called a CUNT for the first time in 8Th grade lol

My mother told me I would never be better than her. Here I am as a high school teacher and college professor with 4 degrees and working on my doctorate. Therapy has really helped over the years. Healing from years of abuse and trauma is hard.

I’m also fair myself and a few yrs back maybe 6 yrs…we where on a boat and my aunt she asked me if I was allergic to the sun due me be being so fair. Pissed me off. I’m outside all the time. Takes me forever to get any sort of color. If people don’t like then who cares .

I remember going to kindergarten and being made fun of for my hair. It’s been over 20 years and I still hear the comments play in my head. 
I hated my curls. I ruined them. 
Bleached them. Put all the heat on them. Heavy shampoos and conditioners. 
I shouldn’t have started getting low self esteem at 5.

I was singing in the car and my mom said, "don't quit your day job." I didn't sing for a long time after that. Then in my 30's i became friends with a singer who encouraged me to sing. Turns out i actually CAN sing.
