Baby flat head issue

My baby has a flat head and hates tummy he’s almost 5 months old and his doctor says to wait to see when his 6 months, and if it gets better then he won’t need a helmet but if so he will indeed need one and I don’t know what to do other then tummy time what else can I do that can help with his head and I feel like a bad mom because I don’t know what to do

Is the flat head on one side only?
Change the way you hold him, for example if you hold him on the left all the time start using your right arm. Start practicing seating, use a flat head pillow for the stroller and supervised naps if possible. My first had some and doing these things helped, however depending on how severe it is/or not most end up shaping up as they grow by 1yo my son had nothing left of it. 
Keep advocating for him if you feel and know that he needs the helmet yesterday then get that done. With my first I knew he had a speech delay and the pedi wanted me to keep waiting until 2 to send him for an evaluation. I took him at 15 months and by 2 he could talk like any other 2yo. Don’t wait.

This happened with my little guy. We just made sure if we normally laid him on his back and we were in the room on the right we would change his laying position to encourage head movement. We also started using a small chair that had good tummy and back support to alllownhim more upright time. In doing so the issue resolved itself fairly quickly

At 5 months he could be able to sit up in a walker or something similar so he doesn’t lay on his back so much
