Positive Test after Bleeding

Hey all, I started what I though was my period May 2nd, and stopped bleeding May 8th. I started feeling nauseous on Sunday so my husband asked if I was pregnant, very unseriously because I'm on birth control. Well, I took a test and it's positive. Also got labs done and my HCG is 76. Does anyone else have experience with this? I'm wondering if it was a miscarriage...
