US healthcare is confusing..
So me and my husband just got reloacted to the states due to his job. We have lived in Ireland most our lives and a few years in France. We have gotten kinda settled in but he got hurt moving something heavy into our flat so had to go see the doc. Was surprised we still had to pay. I get healthcare is expensive here but we went to a place we were told was in our system and figured since we pay like $1000 a month for our insurance now that means we were good. Apparentlynot as we got a $1300 bill because we havent spent enough to use the coverage and the $1000 we pay monthly only covers a % of the care at this point. So I did know we'd be paying as his company told him (not well as I don't think they fully knew) but didn't know we'd be paying to then pay more until a certain amount then still have to pay copays and percents of some things. If there is any other weird aspects of living in the states that is gonna pop up cost wise in ways I don't expect please let me know. We did get the confusion of sales tax and a city tax (so double taxed where we were I think....) but it wasnt in the price listed so that also was a shock so now I make sure I math on 6% wherever I go because you lot don't put the taxed price haha. Might be a long 2 yrs here... ***Edit--we do now understand our plan (as much as we can get how this is accepted honestly) the general point was just a small whinge on how stupid this all is. And to the person mentioning waits....yes the waits have been far longer than we experienced at home. And we will 100% be waiting until we are back home to start our family. We pay much more now in Healthcare cost than we did in tax home for not any better care so far. Seems a bit backwards don't it??
