Advise from other parents needed

Please?

My daughter has been complaining about another child being unkind to her at school… which I witnessed today after school.

The said child made a rude remark to my child today after school in my presence and in her father’s presence too, so I acted in the moment and approached the child’s father - I spoke with the father calmly and privately about what my daughter has been complaining about his daughter doing to her. The father was extremely rude and defensive, even accused my daughter of being a bully and told me that he has told his daughter to never allow my daughter be near her. I was so upset but I remained very calm. Did I do the wrong thing speaking to the father?
