When should pacifier be taken away?

My daughter is two and so dependent on her paci. She wants it when she cries, gets in trouble. when she's in the car, at night, and any time she isn't eating. She's got a mouth full of teeth and talks a lot, but won't take her paci out unless we take it from her. Is it lazy parenting to just keep letting her have it? My mom took mine when I turned one and my comfort was then a baby doll, not my paci. Is two too old for a paci? Opinion?

The sooner the better. I work in childcare and have seen a lot of delay in speech because of pacifiers. It has damage her teeth and gum development. I would say by six months it should be gone. At this point it's doing more harm than good. My daughter didn't get one after a month old.

It should be gone already, throw them out and deal with her as she gets used to not having one, it will be hard at first but it will get easier. The longer you wait, the harder it will be.

Okay I'm gonna start this by, it will sound harsh & im not trying to be that way.

2 is WAY to old for that damn thing. I believe the day a child turns 1 both the paci & bottle should be gone. I nanny a 2 year old that has one, I take it from him. They are too big & it looks stupid to have a larger child walking around with it in their mouth. Not only that but it is made for babies, the ones with no teeth or just starting to get them. That thing can cause your child to have messed up teeth.

My oldest had one forever lol but once she hit about 1-2 we mad it a rule that it doesn't leave the house and its only for comfort.. Like if she's having a nap or doesn't feel good.. Eventually she just forgot about it

I talked to a pediatric dentist about it and was told it actually will not cause any harm to their teeth until they are about 4 years old. My daughter is almost 2 and still has hers. I honestly am not too worried. I know a lot of people will judge me for it, but I am ok with it right now. I feel you are the mom and know what is good for you and your child and can do the best at making the decision that works for both of you. When you do decide to break the habit I wish you the best of luck. I also have 2 nephews who are adults now who had pacifiers over the age of two and there was no damage or effects from using them that long.

The Paci fairy is a good way to get rid of it. Sort of like the tooth fairy but she puts her paci in a pretty box that ur daughter decorated and at night when she is a sleep the paci fairy comes and takes it and leaves her a special present

I took it from her when she was 19months.her teeth were mot straight. my pediatrician took it to the garbage infront of her. she cried for a day and then got attached with her teddy bear. get it off as soon as possible

From working at daycare most of the children have it gone by 3,   If and when your take it away make sure she doesn't start to suck her thumb/fingers because it damages their teeth!

My sister had one until she was 6ish and she was addicted to it, her teeth were weird and she used to hide them around the house just to have one. I'd take it away as a soon as possible
