Selfish??

Question

I've decided not to have a baby shower as the whole idea of receiving gifts makes me REALLY uncomfortable, but my bfs family is going to be gutted when I tell them. They're really excited about organising anything to do with baby (it's the first grand baby). My bf supports what ever I decide. Am I being selfish? I'd rather people visit after baby is born, when I can spend time talking to them rather than having them all there on one day? Most my closest friends would be traveling 4+ hrs to get here... Hmm. So hard to keep everyone happy.

I'm having two baby showers one from my church family and the other side is from my neighbors,co workers and friends.  I don't mind the attention at all its not like you have a baby every year like a birthday, everyone is really excited about it and I have to admit I am too, it's not about the gifts but more of getting together and enjoying everyone's company and having a party to welcome the newest addition.  I just can't wait for all the different food I get to eat😋

I feel the same way, awkward accepting gifts and I have being the center of attention. But I ended up having two showers! My hubby and I got married last year, we're in our mid-thirties with no children, so needless to say, both of our families are over the moon but they live far away. His in FL, mine in WV. So, I let them both throw showers and just dealt with it lol. But on the plus side, we got sooo much stuff. His family didn't get anything off the registry of course 😒, but we ended up with so many gift cards that covered the bigger stuff, clothes, diapers. All I had to buy was a bedroom set. I got over my awkwardness of getting gifts for that! Lol. I would just try it, it will be over quick and you may regret not doing it

Not selfish at all! Your bfs family can still celebrate their new grand baby and buy presents for him/her when they're born so don't feel like you have to do anything you don't feel comfortable with!

I had my baby shower yesterday & it was awkward because I hate being the center of attention like even on birthdays & people start singing& I'm just sitting there smiling like an idiot 😂 . Anyways everyone wanted to take pictures , everyone wanted pictures of me & the father it just did not stop lol but I can say that I had fun & the gifts you receive can really help you & if this is your first baby you'll have these memories & also he/ she will have memories from it. I think you should go through w/ it. Think on it , good luck !

What if you do a diaper party after the baby is born? Everyone brings diapers and wipes and those kinds of things. People can meet the baby and it can be more relaxed and fun. I second what another commenter said, though. I just had my shower yesterday. It was awkward opening presents and being the center of attention, but it was a beautiful shower and I enjoyed seeing everyone. Also, it was a huge help for us in getting ready for baby. We got all of the big stuff we needed and more. It ended up being fun, and I got cake! Lol

I feel the exact same! They can all still buy your baby a present if they want and bring it when you're home. Don't feel bad about not having one. It's all about you, not them anyway ;)

Make a registery and suffer through the 2 hour shower to get all the clothes/ supplies you'll be so grateful for when the baby is here! Worth it!
