birth control advice!

i'm 15 almost 16 and my boyfriend and I are sexually active. I hate condoms because they irritate me but I dont want to have unprotected sex. I've wanted to get the pill but im not sure on how it works. I was planning on going to a sexual health clinic and getting a perscription for the pill, i'm a shy person so im kinda nervous to make an appointment and everything. How does that process work if I were to get the pill? Do I have anything to be scared, nervous or worried about?
