Super Big Families Are Irrespondsible

Christina

This is controversy corner. I feel that super big families are socially irresponsible. I'm talking about a parent with 6+ children, not adopted or step children.

The natural resources alone that are needed to sustain such population growth is staggering. I can totally understand wanting to replace ones self, but at some point this just seems like narcissism.

Its of course best if these parents are stable emotionally and economically, but a super big family is quite unpalatable when the parent cannot offer sufficient support to their many children.

This is not a discussion on religion. It's about being responsible for our environment and community.

My mother in-law had 8 children, they all went to the top private schools and are all Lawyers, accountants and very successful adults. Don't assume because you can't afford it that others can't either!

OMG you miss the entire point. My post was an opinion. I invite others to disagree and discuss. If you were offended it was because you took it personally and didn't have a thick skin, both are rules of the forum. You're continuing to misuse the term bigot in the exact opposite way of its meaning.

How does calling someone a bigot, differ from calling some one irresponsible for their choice to have a large family? Both are offensive. I didn't formulate an argument to oppose your opinion, you obviously didn't read my below comments. I just had an issue with your self righteous attitude. You fail to see that what you wrote was very offensive to a lot of women on here. If you want to call it attacking then you're opening subject left you open to that as that is exactly what you did!

Just because you can't afford that many kids, doesn't mean others can't.

I agree that it's socially unacceptable for any woman to have multiple children when she can't even take care of them or herself. Then again now a days I think a lot of women shouldn't even be allowed to have kids. Seriously this world is full of scum. But if u can afford it go ahead

With the low birth rates in the West & European countries (lower than 1.9, US 1.6) I think we'll all be OK.

Well, until there's a child limit, nobody can tell how many people they can and cannot have.

I come from a large family and I was always well taken care of. I never went without. We went on vacations and always had everything we needed.

This is controversy corner. Other people's choices to reproduce is none of your concern. Mind your business.

No, I don't. It seems the only opinion worth having is when we are bashing others for something that has nothing to do with us. OP needs to get off her high horse and mind her own uterus. Period.

yes Joshlyn you need to back up your opinion with something more than "mind your own business". This forum is not about silencing opinions but discussing them.

To be honest, I totally agree. I don't understand how people can look at how overpopulated the earth is and how it can't sustain so many people, and the decide to have 8+ kids. It's as ignorant as driving a hummer.

Obviously it's your right to have a bunch of kids if you want, but it's bad for the earth. Point blank.

I agree that lack of education is killing the planet, but overpopulation is a huge problem. It's just a fact. We don't need more people trying to make a difference, we need less people.

I am a huge environmentalist and will raise my children to live off the land. I will educate them to take care of this planet. So now we have 6 more people trying to make a difference 😊

MANY couples only have two children, MANY people have no children. Very FEW people have families of 6+. Where is the issue? As long as the people having these children can support THEIR children by all means necessary, why do you care?

Your talking about developed countries, not globally, and you're also talking about a tiny 5 year time scale

As of 2011 did you know that food prices have been dropping? And that undernourishment has dropped 10-18% why is that if we're running out of food.

Lol CURRENTLY we are not having any types of problems sustaining food.

Fact: the world is overpopulated and there's no sign of it getting any better. Based on this fact, I agree with what you're saying. If there were a way to reduce the human population over time (such as some ethical way to limit the number of children people have) then I'd agree with it - for our planets sake. But as of right now, I think only China does this out of sheer necessity. I don't really agree with their methods though, which is why we'd need a more humane way to deal with it.

That is an idea, Michaela. But none of that will matter if we become so overpopulated that there's no more natural resources to consume.

Why do people automatically equate large families with being poor and uneducated?

I'm pretty sure the American population is declining right now, along with the American fertility rate. In 2007 it was 2.1 births per woman and now it's at 1.7 births per woman. Europe also has a low birth rate at the moment. If people want to have 6+ children, let them. None of your business. And if people are so concerned about food shortage than grow your own damn food.

I think it also has a lot to do with couples/women waiting until later in life to have children
