Why Catholics and Other Christians Should Be Pro Life

Mary • Hi! I`m Mary. I have a BA in Psychology. Been dealing with PCOS for 22 years. I work at Sander’s Candy and Ice Cream Shop and trying to get my head around this COVID craziness!

"Truly children are a gift from The Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward."(Psalm 127:3)

Some of you may be thinking, "That sounds nice, but we live in the real world. Children often arrive without warning and precedent. Shouldn't it make sense that we should have a choice whether to keep them or not? And what about rape or insect cases? Why give a child life under those circumstances let alone the other number of reasons why it would burden the parents of the child or allow the child to grow up in sub par conditions?"

All are good reasons but we have ample theological evidence and biological to believe that it is better in most cases to be pro life if not consistently as well. Our Christian faith tells us it not just biological meeting of egg and sperm that create life, but also God's hand is involved with the insertion of the soul. Without this key piece of information and the Bible quotes to support it, the pro choice advocates would be more than right to claim choice for the person who's carrying the child should have the ultimate decision for what goes on in her body.

Not only that but, mothers who have abortions and are not psychologically ready to have one are also more likely to suffer psychological trauma, depression, self harm, and be more likely to die by suicide than those who chose to keep the child and adopt the child out to a loving family. Even mothers who think they know the impact their decision will have on them and their loved ones, are not necessarily immune. Not to mention that repeated abortions drastically increase the incidence of breast cancer and other feminine health problems.

So if you are thinking about having an abortion or it seems like the only possible option, I urge you to take a look at pro life materials particularly from the Catholic Church, since I feel that their position and explanations don't necessarily call people to the mat that have already had an abortion by calling them "baby murders", and other demeaning terms designed to shame and isolate people from the pro life position anyway.

We have to remember that it is ultimately God that gives life, and we should trust in him to do what's best for us. If you've had an abortion, I don't condemn you and neither does God. He understands the human heart, and offers forgiveness to all unconditionally. Project Rachel is an excellent program that I know of that offers support for those that have had abortions and provides psychological and spiritual healing for those affected, including I believe for the men in the woman's life as well.

To conclude, please consider life when a child comes into your life. You'll do your body, and the child a favor as well as be working with God in His will in your life. So what have you got to lose?
