I need housing advice.

I live in the UK in temporary accommodation provided by the council with my 3.5 year old son. It is only 1 bedroom and is now getting really cramped now it's getting older, we've been here for almost a year and a half. Does anyone know how long it will take to get a new council property or how to speed the process along.
