Tampons?

Question

Are tampons supposed to hurt and feel uncomfortable when you put them in? I've been trying to use tampons lately but every time I try to put them in, it hurts and I can never keep them in because of being uncomfortable. Is this normal?

I use U by Kotex, and at first it did feel uncomfortable, but it does take a few days to use it. My best advice is on one day you don't have your period try to insert a tampon just to get used to putting it in. But Make sure to take it out!!!

As far as hurting goes, it shouldn't hurt but it will be uncomfortable until you get used to using them. (It took me about a day when I first started using tamping to get used to it) The best brand I have found is play text sport because they insert super easy and absorb really well. Just be sure to start off with regular (maybe slim fit if they have them) because even now years after if I use a bigger size when my flows not heavier I have a little discomfort. Remember to relax. Also when you're sitting on the toilet and are inserting the tampon, don't push it straight up. Put it in at an angle more like you're pointing it toward your back. That really helped me. Make sure you use a plastic applicator and a smaller absorbsancy. Good luck!! ?

I find getting the applicator slightly damp makes them easier to insert.

If you can feel it, it's probably not in far enough. Try starting with the smaller size and see if that's more comfortable.

No worries Jess, I take it from your post that you are 1. New to tampons and 2. Probably of a slighter build. Many girls that are smaller have painful or difficult times adjusting to tampons, the best thing to start slow and use the smallest size, try using it just one day of your period and working you way up. It will be uncomfortable but should get easier if the pain continues talk to your obgyn. Otherwise remember there is no shame in being a pad person!
