Is it just me?

Question

I feel guilty making a baby registry. I don't know why. I am excited for our baby; I guess I do not want my family and friends to feel obligated to get our baby something . My family does so much already that I just do not feel comfortable with it. Really debating on not having a baby shower. Both my and my husbands families are going thorough some hard times and I just do not want anyone to feel like I am putting pressure on them. Anyone else feeling the same way.

I felt the same way, especially about the expensive/big stuff on the lists. However most registries have benefits/points/percentage off so even if you buy the stuff personally, you come out a little bit ahead on the stuff you need anyway. Good luck!

From the other perspective.  I recently attended a friend's baby shower and appreciated that she had a registry. As a guest I knew I was getting her something she actually wanted and would use. It would be a shame to get someone a gift only for it to sit in the back of a cupboard somewhere.

I haven't done my baby registry yet, but I felt that way with our wedding registry and my bridal shower. I felt like I already had everything I needed and already feel weird being the center of attention and opening gifts. So I asked people to bring something to donate to a women's shelter. I still ended up getting a lot of stuff for me though. By it helped me feel less spoilt and I was able to help people out that didn't have anything .

You could always say gifts are optional and mention you will have craft stations at your shower where guests can make you gifts.

>> Since LO is a girl, I also set up a headband making station. Supplies on etsy are super cheap ($13 for a mixed bag). I think the shop was called hairbow supplies. You will also need glue guns. I bought 6 for a party of 35 women. You could get away with 2. They're cheap at Walmart (2-3 bucks).

>> At a different shower, we decorated "late night diapers" with encouraging, sometimes funny messages. The diapers were only to be used during late night changes. Again sharpies!

I felt the same way, almost like I was begging people for things lol. I realized that it was just a part of the process and that whoever participated was showing love for my little one. In the end, I was truly greatful for everything and mostly the big ticket items that would have been a great expense. Just remember it's ok to feel that way but in the end it's all about your little one and what he receives is all the love people will shower on him 😊

But what you don't want to ask anyone for and let them buy tiny things like a onsie that says grandma loves me or some toys or some people ask for children's books as gifts instead of other things

I HATE doing baby registries because I feel terrible asking my family and friends for expensive things but I like top quality because I've found certain products- some pricey -work better and last longer. Also I've found I don't need much, only those few things. Then I find myself adding a bunch of cheap versionsI don't really want. I'd be fine with them getting me nothing and me saving for it . I'd rather them just show up and spend time with me. The gifts aren't important .

I feel the same, my boyfriend and I live states away from all of my side of the family, and I don't know his side very well, I hardly know if I'm going to do a baby shower, because I don't know anybody, and it would be odd to meet someone for the first time as they buy stuff for my baby xc

You could always have a diaper party. Everyone just brings a package of diapers and you celebrate the baby. We registered and are not having a party but whatever is left on the registry they give you a coupon to use towards it.

You have to do what you're comfortable with!  You can NOT register and say no gifts and still have a little get together to celebrate with everyone if you like!  I've been to a shower like that.  And I brought the family a small token to celebrate.
