Partner and his job

sooo my partner was always going from job to job when we first met and once went months without having a job- he was looking but couldn't get a call back! and he then found a new job as store manager and he's been there for about 7 months buuuut yesterday he randomly messaged me from working saying the place is shutting down and next Wednesday was is his last day, obviously I was shocked as I'm pregnant and my wage is definitely not enough :( then when he came home I asked him what happened and he kept changing his story and stuttering etc (sign of a liar right?) then he got home from work an hour after he left this morning and said they let him go straight away instead of next week but he's getting a 3 week pay out. surely a big company like that would have to give at least 2 week notice before closing and getting rid of anyone?
